Planning that Halloween Party? Why not try some spirited libations from our vintage ABC of Cocktails, now available in ebook form! Fun 1950s images and verses illuminate this A to Z compendium of full-strength cocktails (with suggested dilutions for “amateurs and maiden aunts”). Featuring two parts time-tested mixology, one part refined taste, and a judicious splash of wit, this book will infuse liquid refreshments with high retro style. Here are a few classics to try:
5 parts Gin
1 part dry Sherry
A Martini with dry Sherry instead of Vermouth. Properly, Duff Gordon Sherry and Gordon Gin should be used.
GIN AND IT
3 parts Gin
1 part Italian (sweet) Vermouth
Stir with ice, strain into cocktail glass, and add twist of lemon peel. Can be made in Old-Fashioned glass with cubes of ice. This drink is made in England with equal parts of Gin and Vermouth.
4 parts Vodka
1 part Benedictine
1 dash Orange Bitters to each drink
Shake with ice, and strain.
